The African Union Sports Council, Region 5 (AUSC Region 5) in collaboration with TAFISA has invited Region 5 member countries to nominate two delegates per country to enrol on an online Certified Leadership Course (CLC) for Sport for All that is set to start on 15 July to 11 September 2020.

This online programme is an internationally accredited course offered by Region 5 jointly with TAFISA aimed to equip the current and would-be Sport for All practitioners with the relevant skills and competencies to assist them to effectively deliver community-based sport for all programmes.

The programme consists of 32 hours of online training (2hrs per day, for two days a week for eight weeks). Once candidates have been selected from each member country they will be issued with detailed programme and flexible timetables for them to successfully complete the programme.

The deadline for submission of applications is 30 June 2020 and member countries are encouraged to ensure they submit the names on time.

When making the announcement about the course details, the CEO of AUSC Region 5, Mr Stanley Mutoya said “As part of our consciousness to the effects of the current pandemic, we have had to waiver the course fees and will, therefore, offer this course free of charge for the 2020 intake. This is our contribution to the cause of Sport For All as we know the impact it will make in the ordinary lives of our people”

The course is designed for everyone who works or is involved in sport development in their community, therefore the information about such a programme has to reach all corners on the countries and to all relevant stakeholders, including National Olympics Committees, National Associations and all sports networks in the region.

The TAFISA Certified Leadership Courses (CLC) in Sports for All is held under the theme “For a better world through sport for all”. The Objectives of CLC is to promote Sports for All and Physical Activities. The objectives are aligned with the goals of TAFISA’s Mission 2030 “For a Better World through Sport for All” and within the framework of Mission 2030’s 12 key themes.

TAFISA Certified Leadership Courses in Sport for All were developed to train and qualify national Sport for All leaders around the globe.  Since its inception in 2007, and with the IOC support since 2010, more than 50 TAFISA International and National CLCs have been successfully hosted by TAFISA members and NOCs all over the world, resulting in an international network of more than 1000 graduates.

The course draws 20 participants (two from each of the AUSC Region 5 Member Countries which are Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia. South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe).

The course is meant to empower participants with knowledge and experience transfer opportunities as well as the development of English and presentation or public speaking skills. It is also meant to give participants an opportunity to showcase local or national initiatives. Participants in the CLC will receive a Certificate of Completion, signed by both AUSC Region 5 and TAFISA, documenting their successful completion of the course.
