Also present was members of the Region’s Committees and Commissions.

All other key stakeholders such as regional confederations and national federations were also represented together with other passionate sports development, nongovernmental organisation structures in the Region with an aim of reprioritizing, change direction and prune those projects that are not yielding the desired outcomes.

On this occasion all member countries were represented except Mozambique but sent an apology for not sending a representative. All attending member states re-firmed their solidarity and support for the Regional programmes and affirmed to continue propelling this Region to be the most progressive and organised region in Africa.

The forum was planned to take for 3 days of hard work, with the first day receiving presentations from industry experts presenting global and industry trends that are impacting sports development and Regional programmes. The first presentation was on the impact of Technology in Sports. This gave insights to the delegates to access how they need to adjust in their various working spheres of sports in their respective countries. The other two presentations were on Risk Assessment and Management in Sports and Commercialisation of Sports. These sessions was designed to be thought provoking delegates to prepare them for the following 2 days were they would be asked to use their understanding of the Macro environment to ascertain how to navigate in implementation of sports programmes at country level and at regional level.

Following the successful hosting of the Strategic Review Forum, a small working-group consisting of few key individuals will be asked to continue the work to finalise the report to be presented at the next Executive Council meeting scheduled for November in Botswana.

The office of the Region, the Member States and  all key stakeholders, would like to take this opportunity to thank, the honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Prof. Albino da Conceicao Jose and the entire ministry colleagues for their efforts in hosting this very strategic review session.
