14th September 2015SASCOC MOURNS DEATH OF MVUZO MBEBE
20th October 2015The AUSC Region 5 formally announces the sad passing on of its Secretary General, Mvuzo Martin Mbebe. He was 52 years. Mr Mvuzo M Mbebe died at 22h30 on Monday, 19 October 2015 at the ARWYP Private Hospital in Kempton Park after losing a long and arduous battle with colon cancer.
Mr Mvuzo M Mbebe distinguished himself as a sports administrator par excellence in the world, Africa, the region and in his home country South Africa where he played critical roles in the successful hosting of the 2010 Football World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. The region fondly remembers his passionate commitment in nurturing and developing the current crop of sports development initiatives. For this, as a region we will forever salute the legacy he has left us and pledge to carry forward his vision.
It is under his watch that the AUSC Region 5 has developed into a vibrant professionally managed outfit that is now able to meaningfully impact the growth of sport in the region and beyond, where the region’s sport development model has been endorsed by the African Union and is being replicated across the African Continent.
Mvuzo Mbebe has left a tremendous legacy behind, one that cannot be erased, underestimated or undermined. His footprints are everywhere in the world, South African and African sport and the challenge now is for us, those left behind, to take up his baton and complete the tasks at hand.
He is survived by his wife Nomalungelo (Noma) and two children – son Ntsika and daughter Avuziwe aged 18 and 11 years respectively. He also leaves behind his mother Thenjiwe Ngqula, brother Andile and sister Mona Lisa.

He will be buried at his home in UMzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal, on a date to be announced. We salute a hero, a strategist, an icon, a fighter, a general, a volunteer and one that sacrificed his all for the good of his Africa, his Region, his country – South Africa! Rest in eternal peace son of the soil!
