9th August 2019The Right Honourable the Prime Minister Dr. Motsoahae Thabane led a Sod Turning event for construction of infrastructure for the upcoming African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games Maseru 2020. The event took place at Lepereng in Maseru district on Thursday (01st August 2019).
This Sod Turning event was meant for the construction of an Indoor Sports Complex and a covered 20,000 All-seated Stadium as well as the Halls of Residence that will accommodate 3000 Athletes at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) Roma campus which has been identified as the Athletes Game Village.
Dr. Motsoahae Thabane also revealed to the public the contractors that are selected for construction of these facilities, and again gave a key note address for the day which would guide and lead to immediate commencement of the construction work by the contractors.
These facilities which are expected to be handed over to the Regional Organizing Committee (ROC) by October 2020 are funded by the Government of Lesotho to a tune of M2.4billion. In attendance to the event were the Cabinet Ministers, Senior Government Officials, Facilities Developers, ROC and Sports Associations Representatives as well as the general public.
