Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the Chief Executive Officer position in the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5, based in Gaborone, Botswana.

Job Summary
Reporting to Secretariat (Board), the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for ensuring accomplishment of the Organization’s mission and vision, and the accountability of the Organization to its diverse constituents. The incumbent is responsible for management of the Organisation, providing direction and enabling the Secretariat and Executive Committee to carry out their governance functions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures adherence to all legal and regulatory instruments and monitors compliance with relevant laws, regulations and governance instruments.
  • Helps the Board determine the organisation’s strategic direction, goals and targets including designing new business initiatives and projects.
  • Provides general oversight of all Region 5 activities, managing the day-to-day operations, smooth functioning and efficient organizational delivery.
  • Helps the Secretariat (Board) articulate its own roles and accountabilities and that of its committees and individual members, and helps evaluate performance regularly.
  • Enables the Secretariat (Board) to fulfill its governance functions
  • Facilitates the optimum performance by all Secretariat (Board) Commissions, Committees and staff providing a conducive work environment and sound Human Resources Management
  • Oversees the fiscal activities of the organization including revenue generation, budgeting, reporting and audit.
  • Serves as chief spokesperson for the Organisation, assuring proper representation of Region 5 to all stakeholders and partners.
  • Develops and maintains commercial and strategic partnerships for the sustenance of the Organisation
    The person we seek must meet the following attributes
  • A Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Sports Management or Business Administration.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a senior management position. Knowledge of and exposure to the sporting environment is an added advantage.
  • Sound understanding of Business Administration including Strategic Management.
  • Demonstrable understanding of organisational engineering, financial and Marketing management
  • Demonstrates sound understanding of new trends in sport
  • Clean driver’s license. Defensive Driving certificate will be an added advantage
  • Excellent ICT skills, networking and people management skills

Job Title: Documentalist

In line with the BIAT/CFTA Decision of 2012, which was re-echoed by the 9th CAMOT in December 2014, the African Union Commission was charged with the responsibility to coordinate and provide overall guidance for the CFTA negotiations, as well as serve as the secretariat for the implementation process and for the High Level African Trade Committee (HATC). With this responsibility the Department of Trade and Industry was directed to strengthen its capacity in order to deliver on its mandate. In this regard, a CFTA Support Unit will be incorporated within the Department’s organogram to facilitate the CFTA negotiations. The proposed CFTA Support Unit will provide the critical foundation for productive and technical negotiations. It will allow significant challenges to be addressed in the run-up to the negotiations, allowing the AUC to collect Member State inputs and increase their buy-in. The CFTA Support Unit will also provide technical and negotiating assistance to countries that need them during the course of the CFTA negotiations.
